Cyanocobalamin, also known as vitamin B12, is a class of water-soluble compounds containing cobalt. Different forms of it have been discovered since the 1960s. The first one was cyanocobalamin, followed by methylcobalamin and hydroxocobalamin and adenosylcobalamin, of which hydroxycobalamin belongs to the natural form of cyanocobalamin, which exists in food, and the other three forms need to be industrially synthesized.

As an important cofactor in the body, cyanocobalamin plays a key role in the homomethionine cycle and methylmalonic acid-succinic acid isomerization process, and is also involved in oxidative stress, intracellular signal transduction, and apoptosis process of death.
