D-ribose is a simple monosaccharide or pentose containing 5 carbon atoms. It is an important component of the genetic material in organisms - ribonucleic acid (RNA). D-ribose is present in all cells and is a nucleotide , a variety of coenzymes and important components of genetic material nucleic acid, and also the structural component of energy substance adenosine triphosphate (ATP), with important physiological functions and application prospects.

Function

ATP is the "energy currency" of the cell. Under high-intensity exercise or disease states, the decomposition rate of ATP will be faster than the synthesis rate, and the ATP concentration will decrease accordingly. Most of the ATP degradation product IMP can resynthesize ATP through the salvage pathway, and a small part of IMP will be further degraded and lost in the form of purines, resulting in a continuous decline in the nucleotide pool. Cells can make up for lost ATP through re- and salvage synthetic pathways, and the content of D-ribose is the limiting factor in the rate of recovery.
