Astaxanthin is a keto-carotenoid. Like many carotenoids, astaxanthin is a lipid-soluble pigment. Astaxanthin is found in microalgae, yeast, salmon, trout, krill, shrimp, crayfish, crustaceans, and the feathers of some birds.
